Activities

Holy Rosary College is involved in many and varied extracurricular activities that fall outside the realm of the normal curriculum of school. These activities are voluntary but are an extremely important factor in the development of the students.

Commissioned as Meitheal Leaders September 2016
Congratulations to Ciara Dolan, Andrea Delaney, Lauren King, Dean Connell and Ethan Roche who were recently commissioned as Meitheal leaders at a ceremony in Esker.. They have undergone training in leadership and will now bring their skills back to the school and become advocates of peace, justice and compassion among the student body. Proclamation Day 2016
The HRC History Department marked the National Proclamation Day on Tuesday, 15 March with an overview of the events of 1916, reading of the Proclamation, raising of the flag and singing of the National Anthem. |

The concert was a great success. Students, past pupils, staff, parents and friends of HRC enjoyed an evening of song, dance and instrumental music. Transition Year Students entered a recycling fashion competition and made a dress and head piece out of recyclable materials…. old jewellery, plastic bags, onion netting, plastic bottles etc, etc.
They designed a 1920’s style dress and qualified for the regional finals in Castlebar. They hope to make it to the finals in Dublin. The outfits will be judged by well known personalities but 10% of the overall marks is decided by a public vote. You can ensure that they get to the final by voting every day for the next five days, 23rd--27th Feb, Mon-Fri.

Senior Business Mini Company 2015 “Creagán Cookies Ltd” - luxury hand made cookies in packs of 4 – 23 students, along with their teacher, Maura Larkin, set up a business to get practical experience in seeing how a business is run. |
| French Theatre Group February 2015 |

| Junior students of HRC recently enjoyed a morning with a French Theatre group. The students were encouraged to participate in the drama and to use their French language skills. A great morning was had by all! |
| Under 14 Maths Eyes Competition 2015 |
 |
Two of our first year students, Mary Conroy and Áine Healy, have been shortlisted for the 2015 under 14 Maths Eyes Competition. Together with 5 other students from all over Ireland they will have their work showcased in Dublin in March.
Students had to submit a real life picture and pose a maths question based on the picture. The competition was a joint venture between a number of Universities to help promote Maths. All exhibitors will receive a plaque, a copy of their poster and one overall winner will be announced in each category |

Merry Mile December 2013
Over two hundred students took part in a fun run in December… the “The Merry Mile”. As well as being a fun aerobic event, funds were raised for local charities. Many students donned festive beards and Santa hats to celebrate the holiday season.

| John Paul 11 Awards November 2013 |

Sineád Shaughnessy, Linda Mannion, Caoimhe Flahive and Róisín Mannion received gold medals at the recent John Paul 11 Awards Ceremony in the Cathedral, Tuam with their mentor Sr Assumpta.

| Students plant an oak tree to mark their first year in Holy Rosary College, pictured with Mrs Carolan (Year head), Sr Assumpta, Mr Tierney and Mrs Walsh. The tree was sponsored by Padraig Naughton, Doonwood Nurseries and by Eddie Noone, Connacht Tree Care. Each student receives an oak sapling to be planted at home to commemorate the beginning of their second level education in HRC . |

Our picture shows Matt Cosgrove, Eoin Corcoran and Julie Lyons – delighted with their Junior Cert. results .
Eoin has been identified as a high achiever in Maths and Science in Junior Cert exam 2013. As a result he has been invited to take part in the International Science Olympiad and in the European Union Science Olympiad. Six students will then be chosen to represent Ireland in PUNE, India and six to represent Ireland in Athens.

More Musical Success for HRC
The HRC Transition Year production of 'The Wiz' has won yet another prestigious award.On Thursday May 16th, Galway University Musical Society (GUMS) awarded 'Best Overall Show' to 'The Wiz' and Rónan Raftery (Mountbellew) was awarded 'Best Actor' for his wonderful portrayal of The Scarecrow.
Well done to everyone involved.
The Wiz wins the best Overall Show Award
Congratulations to the Transition Year students and First Year Chorus who were awarded the Pat Heaney Memorial Trophy for Best Overall Show, The Wiz, in the recent Connacht
Tribune Schools' Musical Awards. They also won the award for Best Visual.
Paddy Daly, the adjudicator of the awards said the following about The HRC production;
"In this the third year of the Connacht Tribune Schools' Musical Competition the standard of the production was of a very high standard indeed.
Particularly impressive was the quality of the singing, including diction and harmony, choreography, acting, delivery of
dialogue, characterisation and interaction between principals and chorus throughout from so many of such a young age"
